Synagogues in the Southeast US

Beth Shalom  “The Cary Temple”
A Reform Jewish Congregation Serving Apex, Cary, Fuquay-Varina, Garner, Holly Springs, Raleigh, and surrounding areas in North Carolina under the direction of Rabbi Ariel Edery.

Beth Shalom
means “House of Peace.” We are a young, vibrant congregation. In many ways, our membership and growth reflect the recent trend in Cary's growth. In addition, the surrounding areas of Apex, Fuquay-Varina, Garner, Holly Springs, and Raleigh are contributing a steady stream of new members. Beth Shalom is comprised of a healthy mixture of all generations. A long and happy future is assured by the ever-growing number of children who add life and exuberance to our congregation.

Following the traditional 10-month public school calendar, Beth Shalom offers religious school on Sundays to children ages five through Bar/Bat Mitzvah. Midweek Hebrew instruction is held once a week for those pursuing a Bar/Bat Mitzvah.

A recent addition to our curriculum is the pre-school. The four-year old class meets
two Sundays a month, while three-year old students have class approximately four times a year. These classes allow our many pre-schoolers to learn about their heritage in a fun and creative atmosphere.

Our Youth Group provides older teens the opportunity to socialize with one another as well as with affiliated Jewish youth groups in the area. As a member of NFTY-MAR (National Federation of Temple Youth - Mid-Atlantic Region), our teens can assume a leadership role as they meet, learn, and socialize with other teens in the organization. A confirmation class is offered to our tenth graders so they can round out their continuing Jewish education. Activities for adults include Adult Education, Torah study, and beginning Hebrew.

Beth Shalom holds High Holy Day, Sabbath, and holiday services led by Rabbi Ariel Edery. Beth Shalom's Sisterhood is very active. They are responsible for our Yom Kippur break-the-fast.

New ideas are constantly being proposed, evaluated, and implemented at Beth Shalom. A committee known as the Caring Community tends to our families in times of need. Our very involved Social Action Committee participates in community projects such as Habitat for Humanity, local food drives, and the Carying Place — an organization offering aid to families with budgetary and other problems. Beth Shalom extends its hand in friendship by visiting and dining with elderly members of the Jewish community residing in retirement homes.

Beth Shalom was formed in 1983. We are affiliated with the Union of Reform Judaism, the Carolina Association of Jewish Educators, the Wake County Jewish Federation, the Jewish Community Services, the Cary Area Ministerial Association.

It is Beth Shalom's policy to welcome interfaith families and to encourage the children of these families to attend our religious and Hebrew school.
